Jeff, it’s not sandbox. Actually, it’s cutting edge and big news last week, based on the unraveling of genome secrets.

Sadly for men, the advances are also a reminder of our biological frailty. The inability of the Y chromosome to compensate for any mutations on the X means we are far more vulnerable to mental disorders, for example. ìCompared with the complexity of the X chromosomes, we can see what a degenerate mess the Y is,î says Steve Jones, Professor of Genetics at University College London. A long way back in evolution, the male chromosome was big and strong. ìNow it ís a shagged out version of the X,î he says.
More scientifically, here: http://www.rxpgnews.com/article_629.shtml
But it also means we Ys are slowly fading away. We’re doomed.
Once again, we’re treated to a Dowd “men suck” rant because her ex traded her in for Catherine ZJ. Maybe somebody should introduce her to Yahoo Personals or something.
And meanwhile Howard Dean ,a male version of Maureen, deems us all, who dare have an opinion unlike his, brain dead. (“The majority is on our side. We need to figure out how to talk differently about these issues.” “I’m going to be very disciplined about how we deliver messages. We can have policy deliberations in rooms like this. On TV, we have to be very focused.”) Yes, calling people brain dead will win them over, you screaming prick.

Actually, what’s funny is watching MoDo try to find her way out of a coat closet…
This is just another example of the NYT’s weird obsession with “scientifically” bashing the male, as Harry Stein pointed out. If the Y chromosome were stable, evolution would stop. Yes, we’d have strong genes but we’d still be squatting up a tree throwing excremenet at the leopard…
Who is going to make the obligatory reference to the Larry Summer’s debacle?
First it was the black leather catsuit, now the Elise Sutton-style female supremacy cant. Mmm… cut the foreplay, baby, and spank me already!
Re: the article, you’d figure that genetically-superior women would have either figured men out by now or be done with ’em entirely. And how would we explain the fools on The Bachelor/The Bachelorette or female boxers?
BTW, loved this portion…scientists everywhere are shuddering no doubt, at this tremendous scientific discovery:
——
Dr. Page drolly conjures up a picture of the Y chromosome as “a slovenly beast,” sitting in his favorite armchair, surrounded by the litter of old fast food takeout boxes.
“The Y wants to maintain himself but doesn’t know how,” he said. “He’s falling apart, like the guy who can’t manage to get a doctor’s appointment or can’t clean up the house or apartment unless his wife does it.
——
Dowd can wish for whatever she wants, but the the (dis)proof is in her midst…Larry King, Donald Trump, and Tony Randall…men won’t become extinct–so long as translucent gold-diggers are around there will be octogenarian greasers around to impregnate them.
Maybe someday scientists will figure out the proper match for a smirkish columnist.
I assume that all of you are unfamiliar with the term “tongue-in-cheek”
And “head up ass”, too?
Oh, Kat, your off-topic frothings never fail to fail to entertain me…
I thought it was a good and funny take on some interesting science. But men DO have an X chromosome — but just one, incompletely expressed, and it has no backup copy for accomodating faulty gene expression. The Y is certainly devolving towards a minimalist state, but this can be taken as an efficiency function: the most effect for the least replication.
Wait…wait…does Dowd actually get PAID for this drivel?
The average blog post is more entertaining than this.
Tick/tock Maureen, enjoy it while you can.
I’ve been around long enough to know that any topic that speaks to women is worth men being conversant in. Never lose focus.
