Annan’s new U.N.?
: Kofi Annan’s plan to reform the U.N. here. Good luck. I still think we’d be better off shifting some resource and authority to a concil of world democracies.

“Annon” does not contain an “i.”
I think we’d be better off shifting those resources to another carrier group and cav division…
Kofi Annan people. Not Annon, not annin. Annan.
Yeah maybe that way when we bomb countries for not doing as we say we won’t need a mandate or manwhore. We could bribe whoever disagrees with us (Turkey) or take over thier oilfields (Iraq) or assissinate those who don’t give us what we want(Venezuela in the near future). We could call ourselves the “United Oiljunkies Federation for Democracy!”(as long as you have the resources.} The whole world would want to jump on that bandwagon. Maybe Wolfowitz could lead it! Cheney could be in charge of “Resource Restructuring.” We’ll put Ken Blackwell and Karl Rove in charge of “Election Engineering” to spread democracy. Arnold Swatsisname could be in charge of our “international steroid testing program.” Governing is so easy isn’t it? What a wonderful world it will be! Christians would ascend to heaven after the rapture on a silver lined blanket embellished with our beautiful corporate logo!
thank you, my copy editors.
This story hasn’t gotten much play in the press yet; the longest story I’ve seen was in the Telegraph with the Chicago Trib, WaPo and NYT all shorter (I didn’t read the LA Times).
Shouldn’t such an extensive revamp of the World’s Most Important Organization be a little more newsworthy?
We’ll see how it’s played on Monday with the official announcement.
How hard will this story have to be spun to deny Bush any responsibility for these changes?
P.S. A time may soon come when he prefers “Anon”
Ahhh, a League of Democracies. This is the kind of thing I dream about.
The US would never join a council of world democracies becuase they don’t want American hegemony to be threatened by a democratic vote among its members.
Odd…we would ‘never want to join a legion of democracies’ yet we belong to a group that includes misfits, tyrants, thieves and perverts, and I haven’t even discussed the members yet.
I thought we already belong to a league of democracies. Oh wait, I’m sorry, I mean a league of large economies and security pacts. Interestingly those are the only ones that appear to work. Tells you what the motivating factors in international relations really are.
Chris Harrison รณ Exactly! And it would let us support the troops by giving some of them a weekend off once in a while! See how easy that was?
I find the timing of this announcement exquisite. Bush names Bolton as ambassador and nominates Wolfowitz to head the World Bank and then we have Kofi all of a sudden deciding that it might be nice to support the US for a change. Wonder why??????
Maybe he wants to personally “guide” the process? From the peanut gallery, one would hope.
