Sorry, but this reeks of propaganda.

It must be propaganda. It does not fit with what we have been told. It must be a lie because the first news is the truth. We cannot trust those who blog from Iraq. We in America know more about what is happening in their land than they. We trust the words of TV people more than a friend.
    It must be a lie.
Why are they lying to us?

Stop being such an apologist. None of us are surprised that there are *good* captors in Iraq. Ridiculous post.

Gee, I wonder how hard it would be for me to open an account on Blogspot and claim to be from Iraq and post something about how (insert adjective here) the prison is.

It’s definitely real, as there are a number of Iraqi bloggers who’ve been blogging for awhile, and this is one. I think the attitude towards the prisoners in this post may point to the class disparities in Iraqi society – educated urban cosmopolitans of course hate the brutal and tribal Iraqi ‘rednecks’- which is of course what Saddam Hussein was in the first place. They see these guys and they remember Saddam.
The fact remains, however many ‘foreign fighters’ have infected the slums, that U.S. soldiers appear to have been detaining and roughing up innocent people such as women and elderly and disrupting many families that may have not been involved in any sort of insurgency.

How interesting. Someone from Iraq posts something that doesn’t dovetail with certain peoples’ preconceived notions, and is dismissed as “propaganda” and “he must not be really in Iraq, anyone can get a blog on blogspot.” What does that remind me of… Bueller? Bueller? (cough Soviet dissidents cough.)
Obviously Ali and his ilk should be thrown in the nearest psychiatic ward for his schizophrenic delusions that not all Americans are slavering fiends.

As I posted on Ali’s website, is he in the habit of recording chats with friends who pop round to talk about ‘old memories’? Seems a little odd to me, or did he write this down from notes, shorthand?
Certainly interesting to hear another side, just not sure whether I believe this particular version OR the one in the mainstream press.
