The Dean Scream II

The Dean Scream II
: Howard Stern defended the Dean Scream this morning, saying that he doesn’t support Dean and doesn’t even know what he stands for (if he did, he wouldn’t be a Deaniac) but he likes somebody with some oomph. “We’re always complaining,” he said, “that politicians are passionless.”

And then — here’s the final remix — they put the Dean Scream over porno tapes. It fits.

: Later in the show, Dan the song-parody man, cut Dean into a few songs: Hotel CALIFORNIA! and “Four dead in OHIO!” and NEW YORK! NEW YORK! and finally James Brown’s I Feel Good (“I got you YAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRHHHHHH!“).

I’m with Howard — when I saw the scream, the first time, it didn’t bother or appall me.
I’m not pro-Dean at all, but you have to admit that he showed more energy in losing than Kerry did in winning.

    Allison,
I’m not sure that’s really what Stern thought. I think it was the setup for the punchline.

While the scream itself could possibly be defended, the fact that it played into every anti-Dean stereotype, became the butt of every joke, and made him look unelectable cannot be denied.
Dean is in an echo chamber, and from the sound of it it’s damn loud in there.
    YEEEEAAAHHHHHRRRRGHH!

Actually, Dean’s scream reminds me a little of the sinners in Jack Chick comics, who always scream, “YAAAAAAA!” as they are cast into hell.
I finally saw a video clip of Dean’s speech on the C-Span site, and on video it didn’t seem that bad.

His scream will go down as the Michael Dukakis’ Alfred E. Neuman-in-a-tank moment.

I finally saw the speech on TV last night. I don’t watch much TV, so I had to make a special trip to see it.
It is a perfectly normal campaign speech from a guy who is losing his voice.
Have any of you complaining about it ever listened to a coach rally your team or been in the military or participated as a volunteer in a political campaign before? There was nothing unusual or over the top about it.
Do you prefer your politicians passionless?
You are all just trying to take a cheap shot.
