Patriot Act
: A contrarian view: I’m for the toughest possible measures to stop terrorists, having seen them up close. I’m not against the Patriot Act, cautious only about a few of their provisions. I’m not against airlines giving my data to the government, though many whine about that. I’m not against ID cards; I’ll be the first to volunteer. I’m for safety. So there.
In tonight’s State of the Union address, Bush says, “Key provisions of the Patriot act are set to expire next year…” And the left side of the aisle applauds, surprising him. He continues: “The terrorist threat will not expire on that schedule.” And the other side of the house applauds, louder.
