Leading by example
: At Iranian.com, Pedram of Eyeranian fame explains why he blogs and why other Iranians should and then tells them how:

My blog and others like it are a way for people to connect to people, direct and almost one-on-one, often a very personal level. This is why you need to start a blog and to do it in English.

I wonder if someone (perhaps Pedram himself, if he is reading this) can explain this baffling sentence:
A Muslim Malaysian was surprised to hear that the 1979 revolution was never “Islamic” in content or nature and included many others who were pushed aside when the Islamists stole the people’s movement and rode it to power.
    I’m surprised, too.

    Diana,
There were many political ideologies involved. Below is a loger history of the time period. I would scroll up to the Coming of the Revolution and read down till your curiosity is full. It’s very long, so grab some tea.

“A range of political groups, from the far left to the far right, from secular to ultra-Islamic, were vying for political power, pushing rival agendas, and demanding immediate action from the prime minister. Clerics led by Ayatollah Mohammad Beheshti established the Islamic Republican Party (IRP). The party emerged as the organ of the clerics around Khomeini and the major political organization in the country. Not to be outdone, followers of more moderate senior cleric Shariatmadari established the Islamic People’s Republican Party (IPRP) in 1979, which had a base in Azarbaijan, Shariatmadari’s home province. ”

I’ll check it out over the weekend as I have no time right now, but I must say that this sounds like rationalizing. I remember the revolution quite well (obviously, not from the inside, I was in New York city during the whole thing); and it seemed to us that the whole thing was Islamically inspired from the start.
