: John Hinderaker thinks the press isn’t saying enough nice things about the pope. Dave Winer says they’re saying too many nice things in “an endless infomercial for the Catholic Church.”

: I just got off the phone with my sister, the Rev. Jarvis, and she and I both bemoaned Franklin Graham appearing on TV as the representative of Protestants.

Not only is he not a spokesman for Protestants, he’s a bad one. On Today yesterday, after he cooed about the pope, he was asked about the pope’s opposition to the war in Iraq. Graham said he does not know a minister on earth who is for war. So every minister opposed, say, World War II?

    Uh, I’m not a big fan of the Grahams, but I don’t think anyone is really in favor of war except Bad Xena and other cartoon characters. Franklin’s not a moron; I’m sure he grasps the notion of being against war but seeing it sometimes as a regrettable necessity.

    it was generally my impression that what FG said was true.
    it’s a good way of stick handling out of the situation. I’d also be willing to bet vast sums of money that the pope of the day was not supportive of the Allies fighting WWII. He had some understandable reasons, and there are of course arguments as to exactly how much he was coerced.
    For your snark… do you know of any issue where every minister agrees? There are rather a lot of priests and ministers who aren’t all that convinced of their religions, who don’t even believe in christ. Let’s get away from mean snarking, even against the grahams (i hate seeing them on TV… just turns me off… but its for others i guess)
