Follow this money

Follow this money

: Fred Wilson and Brad Burnham — two of the smartest and most generous (with wisdom that is) men I’ve met in this new world — have officially launched their new VC fund: Union Square Ventures “dedicated to making early stage investments in technology enabled service businesses that are disrupting markets, particularly the marketing, media, financial services, and telcomm markets.” And there’s plenty of disrupting going on.

: UPDATE: Now this is a show worth watching: Fred Wilson fisks Jason Calacanis…. And Jason responds.

    ROTFLMAO.
    Thats a good one Jeff.
“dedicated to making early stage investments in technology enabled service businesses that are disrupting markets, particularly the marketing, media, financial services, and telcomm markets.”
    BFD, boilerplate marketing crappola.
What got my attention is that if you click on their site with FireFox on Linux they actually popup a messagebox that TELLS YOU, your not supported.
So FF, one of the most distruptive products/platform to come down the pike is not worthy?
    Point #2
Who gives a crap about distruption? What matters is wealth creation potention, and given the nature of the web (ie the transfer of power to the edges), most of the value creation is captured by users.
Basically this fund is a sorry excuse to play a little arbitrage with the wide ranging rates of change as the internet works its magic on evermore segments of the economy.
The prospects of longterm value creation are slim to nominal, but then again, a VC’s real job is to just pawn these business’ off to the public.
PS. Using html tables instead of CSS is so 1999.
    Does Hope really spring eternal?

    Charlie,
We are VCs not web developers.
But we’ll fix it so you can read our website as soon as possible.
And you are wrong about long term value creation. Last time I looked the web is creating a lot of value.
But you are right about the boilerplate marketing crappola. We gotta fix that.
