On MSNBC

On MSNBC

: For the sleepless, a reminder that I’ll be blogboy on MSNBC Sunday from 6a to noon and again in the Ron and Monica show between 5 and 6p covering the blog view of Iraqi elections (see the posts below). I’m preceded by Will Femia (who better leave good stuff for me) and followed by Joe Trippi.

In a half-dozen segments, I plan on covering (and this can change in a second) some of the emotional reaction to the election quoted below; coverage of citizen journalists in Iraq via blogs and Friends of Democracy (links below); video and photo from citizen journalists in Iraq; blogs by young Iraqis; possibly military bloggers’ reports; possibly American blog reaction; and, of course, news as it breaks and blogs.

If you find good links, please do email me or leave comments here. I appreciate the help.

    Jeff,
Are you familiar with mudvillegazette.com, a blog by a GI currently in Iraq? He gives a nice overview re voting conditions in various cities in his latest post. On the right, scroll down, he lists many Iraqi as well as military blogs. I also like his special logo..
Break a leg. (And don’t forget my allowance, eh?)

Hey Jeff, good luck today. So far my hits have been pretty broad, so your specific themes should be welcome.
One point of note (hopefully you’re checking this before you leave the house this morning) is that the set up is not the same. They have a special Internet desk that can relay images from the laptop to a plasma screen. I know sometimes you use your own machine. I’m not sure that’s going to be possible with this set up. That’s probably not a big deal, but in case you’re planning on using saved files, you might want to upload them somewhere. One thing that was uncomfortable for me on the air is that the mouse is a roller ball, which can be awkward if (like me) you’re not used to it.
Regarding links, I don’t see Lance Frizzel on your list. Good photos there if you’re going to mention military bloggers. http://iraq.billhobbs.com/
    Cheers,
    Will

the press appears to be doing their best to follow the Bush propaganda effort.
But with only one polling place for every 2700 Iraqi voters, and reports of lines with at most 40 people in them, its difficult to see how turnout is going to be all that great.
Its pretty pathetic to celebrate “democracy” when the names of the candidates are unknown to the voters. Nevertheless, the media will be trumpeting the “success” of the election regardless of the absurdity of the whole situation.
The killings will continue next week just like the week before, and the week before that. But because the media won’t have the “election” hook for the story, there will be far less coverage of the carnage we have created.

“But with only one polling place for every 2700 Iraqi voters…”
As a judge at a U.S. polling location for over 2,000 in a small town, sounds about right. Piece of cake. Actually, tiny piece of cake. We could have easily handled twice that.
You pitiful PO(R*tB*y)S. If I were JJ, that would be 3.

Well, it’s not for the sleepless if your’re on the right-hand side of the Atlantic – any possibility of hearing any of these programs over the internet?

The population of Iraq must have missed that memo. Why don’t you print it out again and run it through the photocopier a few times?

Just wanted to thank you for the segment you did on MSNBC, and the links on their site and here. I plane to share them with folks I know who keep asking “Why do we only hear from only 10 different Iraqis in US media interviews and coverage?”

It’s nice to find a source of living, breathing, english speaking Iraqi citizens who have an opinion. I seem to know more about the opinions on headshrinking of tribespeople living in Papua New Guinea than I do about Iraqi’s opinions on anything, even the price of bread. Are the US media alergic to average english speaking Iraqis?
Thanks again for the Iraqi blog coverage.

Be sure to complain on the air about how the media “ghettoizes” bloggers and other the other Noble Savages of the nonprofessional media world.
(The various descriptions of your yelling at the New York Times chick during the blogging conference are hilarious. I mean, as in laughing AT you, not with…)
