Vlog it

: The makers of Visual Communicator, Serious Magic, have announced a new tool called Vlog It.

I’ve been singing the praises of Visual Communicator since I used it to play with vlogging two years ago. VC does two important things: first, it gives you a teleprompter on your PC screen so you actually have something to say; second, it lets you drag-and-drop insertion of graphics, audio, and video onto your script so, as you read off the prompter, you record the finished product — no postproduction or editing needed.

I said way back then that the Visual Communicator folks were missing the boat by not targeting bloggers. It took them two years to wake up but now here is a vlogging tool. It’s Windows only and outputs only in Windows and Real formats (it’d be great if it created Torrents, too). It costs $99. I’m paying the same to upgrade my copy to the latest pro version.

On that note, some may be interested in the upcoming video blogging conference, VloggerCon 2005.

    Mr. Jarvis:
I have been inspired by the video blogging of the Tsunami, as well as by your comments on this phenomenon on NPR’s “On the Media” and I am thinking of taking up video blogging as a way of covering local news events where I live.
I was wondering what advice you had on hardware and software for Mac users. Is there a Visual Communicator for Mac, and does it make sense to use it for video blogging? Will the come out with Vlog It for Macs? You said on NPR that you were thinking about buying a Mac. Can you please describe your ideal Mac set-up. Thanks.

Theres a whole group of people videoblogging at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/videoblogging/.
you can also see our work at http://me-tv.com.
Videoblogging is like playing the guitar.
anyone CAN but a guitar and play it….but it takes dedicated enthisiasts to make it magic.
The Tsunami videos was amzing…so are videos of tornadoes…and the Rodney King video.
But commercial TV already capitalizes on extreme realities caught on tape.
The real power is creating a conversation through vidoe that cuts through all geographic and cultural differences.
    its happening.
I appreciate the concept of exploding TV…but its much much more.
Commercial Tv will always have its place…but videoblogging is creating a second world.

Brendan: Visual Communicator is just for a Mac. And I haven’t selected my Mac yet. I’d follow Jay’s links above to learn more and there will be a vloggercon (google it) on Jan 21 in NY; I’d watch their site and webcasts to learn more. Those folks are doing far more than I’ve ever done.
