Smuggled out in a cake

: Martha Stewart sends a message to her fans from inside prison (and links to her appeal).

: Tony Pierce in the comments:

it took jail time for martha to see that drug reform is necessary.

maybe we should send congress to jail for a few months until they get it too.

Awesome. Hey, they might actually deserve jail time for all that insider-trading they do.
For some reason a committee investigating that “problem” hasn’t yet been created.

Indeed, maybe we’ll get some needed prison reform too while we’re at it. And don’t stop at congress- toss those state and local politicos in too.

It is OK that people do time for crimes committed because of the drugs they took – but it is ridiculous to incarcerate someone just because they took illegal drugs – say in their own home! It seems that we have possibly tens of thousands of citizens in jail now for simply using an illegal drug – and not selling, not giving to someone else or a minor, not committing another crime – just trying a drug in the privacy of their own home. These people should be let go free IMO – and why don’t we have medical marijuana if so many terminally ill and terminally in pain patients say it is the only relief they have???

    “When one is incarcerated”
She sounds like she’s the f’ckin queen.
“I beseech you all to think about these women”
Sounds like she’s trying to push those womens prison videos.

I expect Martha to have used the time much to her advantage. Any CEO who is intimately that close to real people for that long and with that much time on their hands can only come out of it ready to roar. Change of perspective, time to think… whew.

I think it will end up being the high point of her life (no pun). Unless someone has been in jail, they had no idea what it really is. I was in NYC for 3 days at the place where the “innocent until proven guilty” people go because of a false charge of attacking a group of women who actually had attacked me before the police got there. And then after 3 months and $5000 later, it turns out the DA figured out the women were lying. It totally changed my opinion about our justice system. The DA is NOT your friend. The DA does NOT want to separate right from wrong. The DA wants to find something to file against EVERYONE they bring in so that a trial date can be set and the judge can deterimine guilt or innocence. I learned NEVER talk to the police or DA without an attorney present.
