Stern, the person

Stern, the person

: USA Today does a People story on Howard Stern today. They should have done a Money story, for that’s where the action is.

    Stern, the hypocrite.
Jeff – Any comments on Howie removing the message board from HowardStern.com because of some user created content?

The USA Today story says Stern summoned the reporter to an interview because he was upset about a Wall Street Journal story that questioned the financial viability of Sirius Radio.
And boy, did the reporter, Peter Johnson, ever bring his kneepads! He quotes Stern at length about how great Sirius is, how wonderful its prospects are, and how Stern is confident his fans will leap at the opportunity to subscribe.
The reporter doesn’t challenge Stern’s assumptions about anything. He lets him rant about the oppressive FCC without giving voice to any critics who might say ol’ Howard shouldn’t be able to broadcast any damn thing he pleases over the public airwaves. (Satellite radio is another story altogether; have at it, Howie).
I mean, Stern is obviously bright, and funny. He says the way to calm down Iraq is to open a few strip clubs, and that if you looked at his TiVo, you’d think he was an 11-year-old girl. But, geez, USA Today gives him a 40-column inch (that’s a guess) blow job because Howie wanted one. It’s a journalistic disgrace.
Mr. Jarvis, you’re right about the right place for a Stern story being in the Money section. And such a story should include comment about how Sirius Radio shares are being thrown around like so much waste paper. The dilution is incredible. Anyone investing in Sirius now needs to have their head examined.
