A new anti-Semitism

A new anti-Semitism

: I’m watching a most frightening Scarborough Country with guest hotheadhost Pat Buchanan as he and most of his guests attack Hollywood for not bowing down to Mel Gibson’s anti-Semitic Passion of the Christ because — in the words of William Donohue of the Catholic League — “Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews.” Buchanan doesn’t scold him but instead talks about how good movies 50 years ago were mde by “Jewish folks.” The only — the token — Jew on the show is Rabbi Smuley Boteach, who replies to Buchanan’s talk about how the Oscars will surely honor Michael Moore and not Mel Gibson and says that Moore and Gibson commit the same sin: “they both whitewash tyrants.” The attacks on “the Jews” continue until another guest starts attacking homosexuals. Scary people. Scary show.

Pat Buchanan’s leaving was the best thing that ever happened to the GOP. He always had protectionist and anti-semitic tendencies, but recently he’s really gone off the deep end. A domestic version of Slobodan Milosevic.

I call Jennifer Gerrou[sp], Jennifer Loose-Screw, heh. I agree with her on F911 though, i hope it doesn’t get nominated – Moore is a POS.

I suspect Pat Buchanan is on MSNBC as a strawman. I also think he’s too bullheaded and self-absorbed to realize it.

[Every time I see Donohue I can’t seem to shake a bulldog image…] Other than that,
Lots of shouting such that many comments were lost altogether. In my view, the Hindu woman made a few interesting comments about developments in Hollywood. Otherwise, agendas and gross over-generalizations keep polarizing us no matter who’s calling who what names. NOTA is true. None of it. Red, blue, gay, Jew and You.
I wish the discussions of the day focused on amalgamation rather than polarization. Is all the tension really necessary?

Yeah, Bill Donohue was scary tonight. I wonder if he feels emboldened in his own special way post-election to come out with the anti-semitism. Pat Buchanan’s anti-semitism is of course old news.
Time for another letter of complaint to Joe. When the hell is he coming back anyway. Pat Buchanan isn’t supposed to have the title role on MSNBC shows; he supposed to be the evil conservative MSNBC foil who makes decent folk realize they’re right to loathe and fear Republicans.

When the Govenor Mcgrievy scandal broke, Pat Buchannon suggested he did not have to leave his wife and go into that “lifestyle”.
He stated; “Lot’s of other gay men have stayed with their wife and worked it out”.
He stated this on-air and nobody called him on it.. I was amazed, I had not heard that kind of nonsense in a while.
I thought everyone now understood – Being gay is not a choice! lol.. Eh, I give up.

anyone knows how many members donohue’s “catholic league” has? i suspect he’s a “chief w/o indians”, a guy with a letterhead and a big mouth, who if he shrieks loud & long enough would be “discovered” by TV.
and who appointed donohue to be the guardian of catholic faith? the pope?
rest of the panel (except the indian woman) were clowns too.

I am a secular Jew who works in Hollywood. While I agree with Messrs. Buchanan and Donohue on very little, that “Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews” is indisputable. See, e.g., Neal Gabler, “An Empire of Their Own: How The Jews Invented Hollywood.”

They’ve got to do this show on SNL some time. Seeing the Donahue guy lean into the camera & say “they should all be put in the nuthouse!!!” on a previous appearance reminded me of the glorious Dana Carvey/The McLaughlin Group skits that used to be on SNL.

“… Gibson commit the same sin: “they both whitewash tyrants.” ”
I’m sorry, did I miss something? Are you reporting that a rabbi described Mel Gibson’s movie as “whitewashing” tyrants?
Does this rabbi mean to imply that Jesus was a tyrant?
WTF? Surely, I misunderstand here. Maybe you can help.

    Hi James,
Just read the reviews on the book you mentioned.
    From Publishers Weekly
The author presents “an entertaining, wide-ranging, in-depth account” of the Jewish studio executives, theater owners, producers, writers, lawyers and talent agents who dominated the American film industry until shortly after WW II. “Gabler vividly recreates a way of life now gone forever,” commented PW.
Do you find that same ‘control’ exists today?
Paul, the Rabbi was referring to Pontius Pilate, who he said was the Hussein of the region at the time. In that sense, he felt Gibson’s film misrepresented Jews as being responsible for the death of Jesus, as opposed to the Roman (and thereby fomenting anti-Semitism in the process), in much the same way Moore misrepresented Sadam.

I certainly haven’t seen an empirical study of the number of Jews in the entertainment industry now as compared to 50 years ago, but suffice it to say that the Jews are in abundance today as studio executives, producers, writers, lawyers, agents, etc. — certainly wildly in excess of their approximately 2% of the American population. (To be clear, unlike Buchanan and Donohue, I don’t see the slightest problem with that.)

Secular Jews? How are they any different from secular Christians? Statistically, that’s mostly who you have running anything in Hollywood.

That McLaughlin group skit is one of the THE FUNNIEST things ive ever seen SNL do.
It made me an actual fan of the McLaughlin group. He’s out of his fucking mind.

I think paul a’barge comments above are extremely interesting and I was thinking a similar thing:
“… Gibson commit the same sin: “they both whitewash tyrants.”
now I didn’t see the show nor would I ever condone anti-semitism, but comparing Jesus to a tyrant is just a bad in my books and only lowers the comments of the rabbi to those of the anti-semetic comments on the show. If you want to take the high moral ground you shouldn’t sink to throwing stones!
