Pledge

Pledge

: The Dallas Morning News and the Springfield, Mo. News Leader included the Pledge in editorials. Pretty cool. And thanks to all the many who linked to it. Also cool. On the other hand, Matt Welch and Brian Linse represent those who aren’t yet willing to shake hands.

The media is at fault here…. big time.
They let a guy start a fake war, used a small minority of gays to bring out biggots in his own party and has manipuated every government agency in his grasp.
The media is stung by the label of liberal bias and it is polluting their ability to tell the truth.
Man, would someone please wake these people up!
They are confusing ignorance with an informed electorate.

    Nicely done, Jeff.
To those who believe that because I voted for Bush, I am ignorant, it speaks more of you than of me. I believe your prejudice is showing.
Jeff has shared with us his decision making process behind his vote. I disagreed with the outcome of his process, but it’s his choice. He disagreed with mine. Reasonable (not that I am), intelligent and informed people CAN disagree.
On the other hand, if your response to someone disagreeing is to shout epithets, what does that make you?

Dishman – great statement – people can disagree. What I’m already bothered by are the people saying that those who are against Bush’s policies are “wrong.” They’re not wrong – they have a different opinion or thought process.
Jeff – I think I noticed similiar op-eds in various places in the last day. Glad to see it continues to catch on.

Jeff, You knew they read it on CNN too right? Pretty cool.

Yeah, wonderful contribution… not sure how many will take it. I voted for Bush, don’t agree with everything he says, but felt he was the clear choice. I don’t know how conciliatory I would feel had he lost, so I guess I can understand the anger staying around on the far left side of the aisle.
I’m also consumed with a sense of “well… what do we do now?” Not being a MEMBER of the administration, I’m not exactly swimming in political options now…
The question is – what do all these folks do with all that emotional political capital? It can’t just vanish into the ether, it’s going to be channeled somewhere… but where?

    Jeff,
Here’s a link to where MSNBC quoted your pledge (if you didn’t already have it). Congrats!

Oh, I’ll “shake hands” with anyone, and continue trying not assume the worst of those who vote differently than me, or who write articles I don’t like. This mindset has nothing to do with Tuesdays in November.
I just don’t do pledges of any sort, and at any rate I suspect them to be like Media Ethics policies — if you really need one, it’s probably too late.

I wonder what a mandatory voter Pledge of Allegiance would do to Blue-turnout?
