Sermonizing

Sermonizing

: Not that you should care, but I put up downloaded MP3 and streaming MP3 and Real recordings of my sermon this morning; text here.

(Audio help: The MP3 file is 15 megs: sampling at 22; mono; 16 bit. Any tips on cutting that down? Any way to make it a streaming file?)

Encode at a lower bit rate. You encoded it at 128 kbps, which is good for music but unnecessarily high for speech. 40 to 64 kbps is sufficient and would cut the file size down to between 1/3 and 1/2 the size. Also, speech rarely requires greater than 11kHz resolution; if you downsample your original recording from 22kHz to 11kHz before the MP3 encoding, that will cut the original file size in half; encoding that at 40-64 kbps should get your file size down from 15.6 MB to around 3 or 4 MB.

Yeah, or speak less. At reasonably hifi levels, 1 minute = 1 meg.

MP3 is the specification for a mathematical algorithm that can compress CD-quality digital audio in such a way that it requires less storage space while minimizing the effect this can have on the fidelity of the signal.

Forgot to add: I used his tips to cut down an >5megs MP3, to ~ half. Now if I could only figure how to get it into the RSS feed, I’d be ready for my first health podcast :-).
