Four Olympic questions?

Four Olympic questions?

: Since when did men’s swimming become the plumbing of sports: all butt cracks?

: And why is the BBC worried about nipples?

: Where has women’s beach volleyball been my whole (adult) life?

: Did I really have to know that Misty May carries the ashes of her dear dead mother in a medicine bottle in her backpack and sprinkles them on the ashes of the volleyball sand?

Where has women’s beach volleyball been my whole (adult) life?

Indeed, I now have 2 sports to enjoy. Open Wheel and Red Neck Racing and Womens Beach Volley Ball.
My life is the more better for it.
But it cetainly has nothing to do with the skimpy uniforms or the touching, slapping, rubbing, hugging, jumping, bouncing, diving or bending over. It is all about the sport of course.

Women’s beach volleyball has been on the beautiful beaches of Southern California for at least 30 years. My wife, a beach gal, actually grew up with many of the pro & “amateur” (Olympic) volleyball folks. When the sport was added to the Sydney Olympics, Tim Blair was assigned to come out to SoCal and write a book about it. My wife hooked him up with various “South Bay” volleyball stars — “South Bay” means the towns of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, etc. — and he got bored! Blair is only excited by pudgy middle-aged draft-dodgers on the campaign trail!
(That last point is true, of course, but as a serious sports fanatic, Blair found beach volleyball to be a silly thing. He is probably right, sports-wise. But he is surely wrong about gorgeous tanned girls in micro-bikinis being “boring.”)

Yep, there’s just something special about women’s volleyball. Makes you wonder why you ever watched things like wrestling and weight lifting…
