McGreevey speaks (sort of)

: NJ Gov Jim McGreevey writes an op-ed in the Sunday Times. It’s all about justifying his decision to resign effective Nov. 15. It’s not about the tough questions he needs to start answering — regarding his employment of Golan Cipel, among other things.

What kind of phony speaks to his constituents through an out-of-state paper? If this was a serious message to justify his remaining in office through November, it would have been in the Newark Star-Ledger, not the NY Times.
Simply, this is an attempt to keep the story in play – to amplify his prominence so that prosecutors won’t come for him, and to remind anyone else who might consider coming forward that even after 11/15, he’ll still have political capital.

Does this last post mean people in NJ cannot read the NYT? More people in the state of NJ probably read the NYT than the Newark paper. Have you even seen the Newark paper? Who would pay to read that?

Perhaps it’s too much to hope for an indictment in the near future about mis-use of public fund and corruption? I forgot, this is New Jersey, things will have to go much worse, and the indictment will have to be supply by the Feds.

Dean – have you ever been to New Jersey? There are several large, important daily broadsheets in New Jersey, including the Star-Ledger, the Record, the Asbury Park Press, the Atlantic City Press and the Trenton Times, among others. Of these, the Star-Ledger has the largest circulation. According to Editor & Publisher, the Star-Ledger is the 16th largest circulation paper in the United States, with daily circulation of about 408,000. This is only a little more than 1/3 of the NY Times’ total daily circulation, but far larger than the Times’ circulation in Jersey, I suspect.
Further, the Star-Ledger is the 15th largest circulation Sunday paper in the U.S., with a circulation of 610,000, which is significantly MORE than a third of the NY Times’ Sunday circulation.
And yes, I read the “Newark paper” for years when I lived in Jersey. In my opinion it’s a far superior paper to the New York Times.

First “USA Today” and now the “New York Times.”
What? He’s so terrified of getting near a NJ journo he can’t even e-mail an op-ed to one of his local papers?

I wonder if the Times will give Golan Cipel the opportunity to tell his side of the story.

Can Keller speak/read Hebrew? Because somewhere along this whacked roller coaster ride I read/heard Cipel will only talk in his native tongue.
Jeebus, I love New Jersey! I’m hopping the Bayonne Bridge and picking up all their local rags!

The Bayonne Bridge is one of the great unappreciated architectural wonders of the NY Metro area. It’s like the Chrysler Building of bridges.
