If you could judge a man by his children…

If you could judge a man by his children…

: Alexandra Kerry, the dark-haired daughter we hear less often, gave a great speech tonight, from telling the story of her father’s CPR on a sodden hamster to endorsing her father’s poltical vision. She humanized him and his policies. Impressive.

I don’t know…I’m looking for a man with a plan for this country, not an amateur veterinarian. I’m a probable Bush voter but could be convinced to vote for Kerry, and I was wincing at the cheesiness of Alexandra. And I don’t want to seem too skeptical, but the bit about the drive home with the talk about the guys who never had families just seemed somehow improbable. Eh.

    What exactly is/was Bush’s plan?

I agree, Jeff. I thought Kerry’s daughters did a great job. I loved the first’s quip, “6’4″, 6’6″ if you count the hair…”
Altho, I do wonder why it is that we have to get at the humanistic sides of our candidates (on both sides of the aisle) thru stories shared by children and spouses. Why can’t our candidates convey that to us?

If you judged this man by his children, you’d compliment him for having the good sense to see to their education (clearly, she can read a teleprompter at a 12th grade level)… then you’d walk across the room and thank your speech writer for “helping” her convey the image you desperately needed to present.

If the media would actually cover the conventions and candidates, they wouldn’t have to try so hard to connect. It’s in the public interest… and all they do is get a panel of talking heads to discuss talking points and sound bites. The quality of broadcast news today is unbearably safe.
