We are the targets

We are the targets

: I flipped through a copy of the 9/11 Commission report I bought tonight and came upon this:

The lesson of 9/11 for civilians and first responders can be stated simply: in the new age of terror, they

Agreed. And this has been obvious since 9/12.
And how has Chimpski prepared us to fight for and protect ourselves? Well he told us to go shopping.
Did he encourage neighborhood watch programs? Pre-position food, medicine, water, clothing, heavy equipment? Did he encourage first aid classes? Did he encourage communities to act on their own? How has his funding of state and local programs fared?
Do you know where the bulldozers and cranes in your neighborhood are? Do you know where the doctors and nurses that live near you are? Do you know how to shore up a building?
Do you know what a suspicious package looks like, or how to deal with one? Can you identify a car bomb, or a suspiciously parked car? Is there any sort of profiling that makes sense, and who would you call if you were trained to be on the lookout?
Do you have 72 hours of food and water and know the recommended routes out of the city?
Chimpski doesn’t care about you, doesn’t trust you, and doesn’t respect you. It’s all about the Chimp and woe to your sons and daughters.
But please, do remember to go shopping otherwise the terrorists will have won.

Look you have to relax a bit. Part of dealing with terrorism is not being terrorised.

I second Pele’s comment: Do you think the Israelis walk around repeating “We are the target” to themselves?

Western impirial capitalism is the target. “We” are collateral damage.

OBviously! That is the first tenet of terrorism – to attack innocent citizens, individuals that are not engageed in active fighting.
As the individuals with means arm themselves, the ones left without protection are the ones that become soft targets.
What surprises me is that that hasn’t yet involved corporations as targets. I can imagine the disruption it would cause.

So why is Hollywood trying to tell us otherwise.
Rather than shop in order to boost the economy, Hollywood tells us to we should entertain ourselves in order to boost the Totalitartian Hollywood’s already bloated economy. It is important to show Madonna support and add to her wealth by attending her two hour, $300 a ticket show. Hollywood tells us to get to the movies so we can watch Michael Moore’s propaganda imagery and be swayed by his idiocy.
Oh yeah, Hollywood is also trying to tell us that Bush was the cause of 9/11 not Islamic terrorists.
What I know is that for the past two decades of denying the threat of Islamic terrorism because we were so engaged in ‘entertaining’ ourselves made us the targets.
    I won’t be fooled again.

I live in New York City.
In answer to your questions, yes I am prepared in all areas you have mentioned.
I am not stupid enough to wait for someone else to tell me that I need to take steps in order to protect myself.
The Red Cross has nuumerous classes on preparing for disaster, and since you need someone to tell you what to do because of your helpless nature, I recommend to take a class at the Red Cross.

Of course, since we will be the first responders we ought to be armed. Even in NYC. Won’t happen though.

    Anne-
I don’t want a doctor to patch me up after the terrorists strike. I don’t want to evacuate my home via a predetermined route, with a supply of food and water, in accordance with a well-organized civil defense plan for my neighborhood.
I don’t want to shore up my office building after a bomb brings down the next building.
I want to kill those motherf*****s before they hit us again!!!!!!!!!

Great, Joe. That’s just what I love to hear. This seems to be our new attitude. Rather than trying to understand, learn, react, adapt to threats, it would just be so much easier to eliminate them. Nice.

Zimmer, that is the only choice we have. They want to kill us, that is what you need to understand. They are no more likely to change their minds about that than you are that you would rather try to understand them and change them. To our way of living, they are insane. They hate our freedom, they hate that women have rights, that makes us the evil in the world. Unless you are ready to go down that road of agreeing with them, you are their enemy and they want to kill you whether you like it or not. And kill your wife and kids and little dog too. How do you plan to adapt to that?

One reason that I like your blog, Jeff, is that you do GET IT wrt terrorism.
As for Anne.Elk, instead of waiting to be spoon fed info on how to save your own life, quityerbitchin’ and go use the web to find out the answers to all your question. Typical Democrat.
I went online the other day and downloaded a survival manual. The Feds do what they can to protect the country, but I, the citizen, have to have my wits about me and do my part, too.

It’s funny when people accidentally say something that is totaly sensible when they’re trying so hard to make it sound silly.
