Martha

Martha

: Just heard on the TV in the airport lounge: Five months. Sounds like the minimum under the sentencing guidelines. I agree with Rex that she should not be going to jail. She has suffered plenty and the real corporate criminals from Enron et al haven’t suffered enough.

: NYTimes.com beat the cable sites to the news. Good for us old print guys.

Jeff: I agree with you and Rex. For a good article on insider trading, read my post, MARTHA STEWART IS NOT A CRIMINAL.

“NYTimes.com” AIN’T an old print guy, Jeff. it’s the ‘digital’ division.

Screw that, she did it, she’s guilty. Those Enron guys deserve a whole lot worse, and I hope they get it. That does not take away from Martha being wrong. Why do people think that just because someone did something worse, it somehow lessens her responsibility for her own actions?

When you can be busted and jugged for essentially nothing just because some suit wants a scalp to wave at the next election, then no one is safe.
A government that can wink at lying witnesses and lying jurors is in no position to insist on laser straight conversations from subjects of investigations.
Of cpourse, if Martha announced she was gay and an albino african american, the sentencewould be withdrawn in a New York minute.

Yeah, Martha lied to the Feds over a relatively minor matter and got the minimum. Punishment
(approximately) fits the crime; I won’t lose any sleep over Martha.
By this standard of measurement, though, Ken Lay should be tried and then shot at sunrise.

I’m sure you mean by a firing squad, Barry, but I can’t help but picture him being shot out of a cannon towards the horizon as the sun comes up.
Actually, that’s not a bad idea.

Why is it that you can’t lie to government agents, but they can lie to you?

Yeah, someone ask Joe Wilson what’s up with that.
