Is competition that fierce? I’ve never seen it on a menu in any restaurant. But maybe I’m not going to the right restaurants.
I make a pretty good creamed spinach myself. I came up with it to make it appeal to the kids more. I’ll test it on my god-son this summer.
Recipes welcome — I’d like to try it and put it on my gastroblog. (I always loved spinach as a little girl, straight out of the can, because I had a huge crush on Popeye. Weird kid.)
Don’t forget those brats, Jeff. I doubt I’ll ever taste their like again, unless I move back to Chicago some day, and the chances of that are somewhere between zero and none.
Bill: I had to read your comment three times to figure it out. At first, I thought you ate children. Then I thought you were calling the wonderful student ill-mannered. Then I put the word in italics and said, oh, of course, brats, bratwursts, wursts, sausages, duh. Yes, I debated having the sausage plate but instead had a schnitzel because it came with the creamed spinach. Now you’re giving me regrets.
There is nothing I like about the term “creamed spinich.”
I’ll go for some brats, though…

I went to Chicago once in college and we ate at Berghoff. I remember it as one of the best meals of my life.
