Well, it’s not as if he’d win New York anyway…
: The Secret Service wants to shut down subways and trains in New York for the Republican convention. All the Republicans will be in the suburbs by then.

Yes, but the democrats are shutting down I-93 and the North Station for the week. And they’ll still win Boston.

Hell, the Democrats are shutting down 93 and the North Station, placing the “authorized protest zone” half a mile from the convention so they can have the convention at the Fleet Center. This is insane when you consider the newly built, GIANT convention center in South Boston. It is less than a mile from the Fleet, it is far enough away from 93 and North and South Station that there wouldn’t be a need to shut any of them down. That convention center is even the baby of Mayor Meninio. But they won’t use it since the use was suggested by Gov. Romney.

The Secret Service always tries to go extreme in security and then the politicians say thank you and do something else.

Maybe George Pataki, Peter Kalikow and the others at the MTA can kick that LIRR-Grand Central East Side access plan into high gear and get it done by September (a mere six years ahead of schedule). And then they can loan PATH a few hundred rail cars for all the Amtrak/NJ Transit riders who’ll be pouring onto the system at Newark instead of riding into Penn Station.
(On the other hand, the Daily News story says the shutdown would be for only one day in New York, while the current plan for the Democrats in Boston is a four-day disruption). -
Actually, SSG B, the reason the Dems don’t want to have it at the new convention center is because (I know this is shocking) the Dems have been planning this shindig for quite some time, and the convention center isn’t even completed yet. Think about that, brainiac. It’s set to be completed in June. It would be a really great plan to commit your national convention to a venue that hasn’t even been finished and won’t be until a month before the convention is set to be held. Romney is playing political games. If the convention center was finished already, there’s no doubt they’d use it, but it’s not, so they won’t. It has nothing to do with our governor’s asinine suggestions.

Of course, if a bombing of the NYC subways were to happen during the convention, and these protections weren’t in place, pretty soon you’d have a “Subway Commission” investigating what Bush knew and why he didn’t listen to his Secret Service advisers….

If the people of New York were to tell the Secret Service– and the Republicans– to f**k off over this one, I can identify at least one card-carrying red state Republican who’d be cheering them for not putting up with this s**t.
[Bl**ps thanks to Michael Powell and his fellow clowns at the FCC.] -
New Yorker’s better wake up to the planned attacks which will be coming from the ‘anything but bush’ crowd this August.
That group began about a year ago of planning ways and means to make the RNC as disruptive and chaotic as possible. Read all about it in archives from Indymedia and DU.
Anarchy is their most effective weapon. -
Syn, oh I think New Yorker’s will save the majority of their scorn for the Bush folks. Despite what the post and fox 5 might say. It doesn’t do much for your comment when half of the protestors will probably be actual New Yorkers themsleves. I know I’ll be there celbrating 9-11 with all those republicans.

How long has it been since the conventions weren’t circuses? It only makes sense that the surrounding traffic areas are shut down to protect regular citizens from the smell of donkey and elephant maneur.
