Contrarian to contrarian
: Microsoft says it will create a search of blogs and all the Microsnots come out of the woodwork. I don’t get it. Blogs cry for attention and then when they get it, some bloggers cry at the attention.

(Full disclosure: Moreover, on whose board I serve, powers Microsoft’s news search; I don’t know whether it is powering the blog search.)

Somehow, the idea of Microsoft

Why not ask Google to allow bloggers to ping its searchbots, as Yahoo has done, while we’re at it.

Lawley, Gillmor, etc. need to take a step back. The way they’re acting you think the on-line world ended. Besides, putting a little pressure on Google is a good thing. They do need to be knocked down a peg or two.

Yellow Dog will be boycotting the new “list” and will work to topple the evil Gates Empire. I hope all of you will join me. -Yellow Dog
Come on America! Get off your porches and run with the pooches– the big Yellow Dog, that is! Vote for Yellow Dog for President in 2004 and vote to take a bite out of the Gates Evil Empire.

The current issue of Wired has a brief interview with the head of NYT Digital — and he’s just as dismissive of weblogs as ever.

As you probably know, The Guardian‘s already doing this for the UK.

Considering the structure of the Internet, I can’t see how Microsoft can succeed. It’ll just be another ingredient in the mix. If you don’t like their search, hit Feedster or the other aggregators that rank blogs. As a blogger, you can build up your network with other bloggers, so that, if your material is compelling, you’ll find your audience. Nothing Microsoft can do to counter that, except to offer what the audience wants.
