Treo 600 screwup
: More than a week ago in New York, Dan Gillmor and I were comparing notes on Handspring’s shocking and shameful underestimation of the marketplace for its wondergizmo, the Treo 600. I told Dan that a Sprint sales guy at Times Square had told me that he gets 15 requests a day and he said I should multiply that by the 15 or sales people in just that store. Dan now finds evidence of how behind Handspring is.

On Monday night I had dinner in NY with friends, one of whom had just arrived from CA. We both have Treo 600s and he told me that 10 minutes before meeting, he’d been in a store in Chelsea, that asked him about his, and said they were dying for some. He called his brother in SF, who walked around the corner, bought several, and fed ex-ed them to NY so my friend could resell them at a higher price to the NY store in Chelsea for a nice profit. Not sure why this is happening, but I got another one last week directly from Handspring, and had it in three days. Maybe once you buy one, they put you on some prefered list. But it wasn’t a problem after they looked up my previous record.
