The Iran-9/11 connection?
: BlogIran sends a link to this surprising news:

On what had been the eve of his widely expected acquittal, the trial of the second person charged by German authorities as an accomplice of the Sept. 11 hijackers was thrown into turmoil Wednesday after prosecutors disclosed the existence of a surprise witness purporting to link Iran to the hijackings.

The mysterious witness, who goes by the name Hamid Reza Zakeri and claims to have been a longtime member of the Iranian intelligence service, is said to have told German investigators that the Sept. 11 plot represented what one termed a “joint venture” between the terrorist group al-Qaida and the Iranian government.

Jeff, as much as would like Zakeri’s claims to be authentic I do see a problem with his credibility.
    Consider:
In February of 2003 he told al-Sharq al-Awsat, “we had in our headquarters models of the [WTC] two towers, the White House, the Pentagon, and the CIA building at Langley”.
Then in June he told Insight Magazine’s Kenneth R.Timmerman, “It was a model of the World Trade Center, the White House, the Pentagon and Camp David.”

Okay. Where’s the problem with the models? The statements seem to be mildly (if that) contradictory but include the same important subjects. Isn’t the real question the reliability of Zakeri? Does stuff published in two different publications that differ slightly show unreliability? If so, what does this say about differing reports or quotes in, say, the NYT or WaPo about what a politician said. (Woops. Maybe I should have chosen an example more likely to be reliable in the first place.) I mean, I’m glad to have the above info, but it hardly seems proof of much.

Time will tell if “Hamid Reza Zakeri” is reliable or not. Der Spiegel has more information on the terrorist trial in Germany.
Iran has been the HQ of militant Islam for a long time and it is no wonder why the Mullahs are acting in this strange way regarding the al-Qaeda supporters…
