Dean is now the butt of too many jokes. He’s done.

I agree. Then again I think it was just a matter of time before he popped his gasket.
I’m a moderate Republican i.e. I don’t mind voting Dem if I think their candidate’s the better man (I voted for Clinton in ’92 and ’96 because both Quayle and Dole gave me the creeps).
For the Dems to win the election, now would be a good time for the moderate Dems to assert themselves.

Has anyone noticed how much Dean’s shreak sounded like Steve Ballmer’s war-dance at that Microsoft conference? Same pitch, just 10 times longer. I’ll be a contrarian and bet $1 (not $10!) that Dean recovers.

I don’t think Dean will recover from the scream heard ’round the world. It was bizarre. I also think it’s a mistake to write off the Iowa results. I think the fringe card has been played and it lost.

I think Dean can recover. I doubt that he will, because I think the past 2 weeks or so are indicative of his overall persona/psychology, which may allow him to govern, but certainly hampers his ability to campaign at the national level.

I’m not a Dean supporter. But it’s a revealing measure of how robotic and sedated we expect our politicians to be that Dean’s impassioned speech has created such a controversy. So, he was emotional, big deal.

There’s emotional, and then there’s emotional problems.

Dean’s farewell address to the troops here in Des Moines Iowa was only the icing on the cake…confirmation that the man doesn’t have a presidential bone in his body.
He came unglued during the last two weeks of our caucus campaign mostly due to his reactions to the unrelenting attacks from Kerry and Edwards (bless ’em) and by caucus night his numbers had dropped dramatically. For two weeks at the end, Dems (not me, I’m a Bushie)observed that he had turned from an angry little man into a mean-spirited little man and it wasn’t impressive. Also, some Dems said that he could not be pictured as a CIC which is a huge political liability in time of war (whether popular or not). I can only hope and pray that Kerry, Edwards or Clark keep up the pressure this week so NH voters get a real look at the real Dean.
My Republican little heart is hoping that Dean wins the nomination because he is the least likely candidate to beat Bush but my patriotic little heart says “Lose, lose, lose Howard for the sake of my country, lose. We can’t risk you standing at the switch.”

Just wait. The next time you see Dean, he’ll be doing his damndest to keep a nice, controlled demeanor, and looking totally out of place doing it. Kind of like, you know, when one Al Gore had to resist from constant sighing and aloofness during the debates, only to look pained and uncomfortable doing so.
