Mom always liked you better

Mom always liked you better
: Media Audit reports there are more people mainlining the Internet than newspapers:

The percentage of adults who spend at least an hour a day on the Internet is significantly greater than the percentage of adults who spend an hour a day with the print edition of a daily newspaper in the 85 metro markets surveyed by The Media Audit.

Unfair advantage. Newspapers don’t have links… or email… or flesh. [warning: link is PDF]

Is there really a newspaper in the US that takes an hour to read? That has an hour’s worth of worthy content? Back when I used to buy the Atlanta Journal Constitution in its dead tree form, it would take about 20-25 minutes to read everything worth reading.

It takes an hour of the LA Times just to wade through puff pieces and human interest stories and find (on page B3)info (4 paragraphs) on the triple homicide a few blocks from my house. But I feel you Reid, the AJC is the worst paper I’ve ever read.

Even the demographics are damning. Even as Internet usage has surged, the quality (for an advertiser) hasn’t gone down. “More than 60% of Internet heavy useres have household incomes of $50,000 or more and 50.4% have one or more college degrees…. For newpapers, 45% have household incomes of $50,000 ore more and 38.9% have one ore more college degrees.”
At some point advertisers have to look at the intense Internet skew towards 9AM EST to 5PM PST and realize that Internauts are the antithesis of snoozing or headed-to-the-john couch ‘taters.
