Outkast outcast
: My colleague Scott Brodeur agrees with my son: Me listening to Outkast is scary. I have one thing to say to both of them: Hey ya!

Howard Dean is quoting Outkast now, isn’t he? Not nice company, Jeff.

Though listening to Outkast past the age of 40 veers dangerously close to Tobias Funke territory, I have to admit that lately, everytime we’re in the car together, my daughter grabs the iPod and queues up “Hey Ya”
I figure we’re not going to agree much about music, so why argue over such a fun song…. -
My guess is that when people over the age of 40 talk about listening to Outkast they’re talking only about the single “Hey Ya”, which is totally atypical of their stuff.

Wrong, Eric. But I do miss a lot of songs if my son is in the car; my finger is on the button like the censor’s at Howard Stern’s studio. (See also Scott Brodeur’s followup post on this topic.)

What Eric Deamer said.
Thanks to iTunes, I own “Hey Ya” but nothing else. Typical mid-forties guy all the way…. -
Jeff:
That’s interesting. I could see the Andre 3000 disc having a lot of “crossover” appeal (for lack of a better word), but the Big Boi disc gets pretty rough at points, which I’m guessing are the points you’re talking about fast forwarding past. -
I haven’t even heard “Hey Ya”. It hasn’t been released as a single in the UK, which is no excuse for me not owning the album. I did like “Miss Jackson,” though.

Nest up; The Roots. You should give them a listen. Of course the language is unsuitable for younger people.

It’s okay. There’s a cross-generational connect. Andre 3000 is going to play Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming biopic.

This over-40 person frightens my daughter’s friends when they come over and I’m rocking out to Rammstein.
Never too old to bang your head. -
“Me and you, your momma and your cousin too…”

As long as you old farts don’t all start trying to talk hip hop. That would be too sad!!!!
-
I think it’s funny, adults talking hip-hop stylee, if it’s done jokingly. When I told my father (54, churchgoing executive) that I had a contact who could get me jewellery at cost, he replied, totally deadpan, “Hook me up wit da ice.”

I’m still waiting for “bees knees” to come back in. Maybe it IS?
