And the winner is…
: The Chicago Tribune says the real winner of the Iowa debate was Wesley Clark, because he didn’t go. Yup. These debates are worse than worthless; they’re damaging. No real insight is imparted. It’s only a chance for bitchslapping. We need a new format for political interaction on TV.

Isn’t “political interaction on TV” an oxymoron?

So does Howard Dean wear boxers or briefs?
-
I actually felt that Dean came out pretty well because he fended off the ugly attacks of Kerry and Leiberman pretty well. However, how the “swing voters” saw it is another question.
And do “swing voters” really watch two hours of primary debates from Iowa or New Hampshire? Or is it just Dems and the press? Perhaps “Swingies” just get their info from the morning paper… -
-Sigh-
On trade, terror, taxes, war, OBL, and SH Dean dismissed his fellow mates as being ”co-opted by the agenda of George Bush.” The all-purpose, one size fits all rebuttal. You call that a defense? -
Just how many undecided Iowa Democrats: a) took the trouble to watch this, and b) had their votes decided by this (or any) debate? Hard to believe it’s any appreciable number.
I would imagine anyone who has any interest in politics, and has the time to watch, has pretty much made up their mind by now. I’ve certainly made up my mind, and I impatiently wait for Nov 04 so I can stop having to hear about these endless, mindnumbing debates. -
It’s not a rebuttal or defense, it’s Dean’s entire platform. If Bush is for it, Dean is against it. Because to Dean’s following, Bush is Hitler.
-
Though it’s funny, Lieberman frequently calles Bush an “extremist”, yet in many cases, Lieberman is to the right of Bush. (Like Free Trade, Fiscal responsibility, etc)

We’ve already got the format! It’s just that nobody but C-SPAN will put it on the air waves! Events where each candidate speaks for twenty minutes uninterrupted, like the Jefferson Jackson Dinner in Iowa, are a great way for voters to get a sense of what a candidate is about. Instead, we get The Bachelor. Democracy doesn’t sell.

Just remove the cloakport part if you prefer to watch someone besides Edwards.
