Just an aside: I had two friends diagnosed with esophageal cancer in the past year and was shocked to find out that one of the risk factors is frequent heartburn (!! who knew!!). Apparently the part of the esophagus that leads into the stomach, if exposed to stomach acid frequently enough, starts to think it should change its’ cells into ones more like stomach lining, and this cell growth/change can be a risk factor for cancer.
So if you get heartburn more than once a week, do something about it. Tums, Pepcid, that purple pill, whatever.
