: Too funny: Rob Lowe will reportedly join Schwarzenegger’s campaign as a top adviser. Arnold: Rob merely played a political adviser on TV. He read the lines. He didn’t think them. You’re trying to run a state, not cast a movie.

For Arnold’s sake, Lowe hopefully has matured over the years, since any comment he makes now involving anything relating to public policy will reflect on the candidate, and you’re not allowed retakes in real life.

It’s weird that he would pick a pretend political manager for his campaign, but a real financial wizard as an economics advisor. Instead of Warren Buffet, you’d think he’d have picked Gordon Gecko, er, I mean, Michael Douglas.

Wasn’t Lowe a delegate to the 1988 Democratic Convention? As I recall there were stories about a 16-year-old girl, a video camera, and blazing a trail for R. Kelly.

I wonder if Arnold could try any harder to alienate California Republicans. First he hires Warren Buffett as an advisor, a man who, for all his investment acumen, has gone on record as opposing Bush’s tax cuts as well as opposing a repeal of the estate tax, and just recently advocated hiking up California’s property taxes. Now he hires Rob Lowe. Lowe is a long-time DNC activist whose greatest claim to political fame outside of the realm of television is, as pointed out by Bob, creating a scandal in ’88 when he videotaped himself having sex with a teenager during the Democratic national convention.
I know that the California GOP has a penchant for committing political suicide, but with actions like these, Arnold is effectively handing them the cyanide pills. He ought to take a hard look at the most recent statewide poll, in which he trails Bustamante 25-22 as a result of 17% of voters now throwing their support behind Simon or McClintock. -
Actually this ain’t such a bad move. Mr. Lowe has plenty of experience with bad publicity, and might be able to advise Ahh-nuld how to avoid the worst of the craziness.

Lowe is on board for one reason: he’s a long-time family friend who asked if he could help out. His one purpose? To make nice with other celebrities who want to help out. Doesn’t sound like Arnold’s looking for political advice so much as Hollywood advice, and considering Rob’s career that can’t be a completely stupid move. It’s not like he actually alienated anyone at NBC, even though he was asking for a raise (after all, he got one, just on a series where he’s the ONLY headliner instead of part of an ensemble cast)
