Bluff calling

Bluff calling
: Sen. John McCain said on FoxNews that if the French and Germans care about Iraq’s future, he suggests they forgive Iraq’s debts to them — especially since most of the debt was run up buying weapons.

Let’s suggest the idea to Bono. I am certain he could convince the French and German governments they show some belated spirit of multilateral responsibility for Iraqi debt relief.

None of us need get too smug about who owes who what where Iraq is concerned. When the Anthrax containers are checked, it would not surprise me if “made in the USA” does not appear somewhere. In fairness, though, the US has tried to redress the past — they put him in; they took him out …

Where’s Bono when you need him?

    Iraq military expenditures, 1975-2002
    Russian 57%
    French 13%
    German 12%
USA & UK combined: less than 1%.
Saddam bought more armaments from Brazil than Uncle Sam.

We should do more than suggest, we should assist the Iraqis to make it clear that arms-related debts have been repudiated.
What are the French, Russians and Germans going to do about it? Invade Iraq? I don’t think so.

    RE: Russ Campbell–U.S. supplied Anthrax
It may very well be that Iraq may have weaponized strains of anthrax bacteria that were provided from US sources. We, and a lot of other nations, do sell such cultures to other countries. The purpose is not diabolical, it is so that the cultures can be made for the purpose of producing vaccines. Although anthrax is not transmissible from human to human it can be a devastating disease for livestock.

Did you ever notice how it is always the people who refuse to take responsibility for their own actions – and therefore NEVER change their mind about anything no matter the evidence – who seem to believe that we can do nothing to redress mistakes of the past.

Checkmate. This is just too cool for words. Chirac is going to have to explain to his voters and his captains of industry that sixty billion dollars of accounts receivable just went up in smoke. How will it look if they insist that the struggling people of Iraq repay debts run up to buy a tyrant’s weapons of oppression?
I’d go further, and impound all French assets in the US, up to the 40 billion dollars in the “oil-for-food” slush fund now in French banks. Turn it over to the new Iraqi government and dare the filthy French appeasers to do anything about it.

The one thing I really what to see is the French, Germans and Russians slowly swinging in the wind as the are frozen out of any contracts in the future in Iraq and to see the new government default on the old regime’s debts. I only wish the Canadians could also get theirs.
