And the lamb shall lie down with the lion

: So on this, even the Sun and the Mirror agree (and I’ll wager that at least one of the Post and the Daily News in New York will sing harmony Thursday morning). Nothing brings warring tabloid hacks together like a great headline.

Interesting choice of photo on the Mirror’s part, though. The anti-war folks at commondreams.org had no comment, when I checked this afternoon, on the jubilation in Baghdad — but there was a hell of a lot of concern about the American flag being draped over Saddam’s head for a split second!
    Funny, that.

It’s not funny at all. It’s very important that the US don’t give the wrong signals to the Arabs.

    Myles, I wasn’t being literal.

Oh Myles, lighten up! I’m sure the Mirror wasn’t trying to inflame Arab sensibilities by choosing that photo from the million or so photos available.

Fair enough. I’m just concerned about triumphalism. Flags and toppled statues etc won’t have the same effect as food, water, medicine, law and order.

Triumphalism won’t have the same effect as food. water, medicine, law and order, but it may have a beneficial effect and may be a necessary condition to the delivery of the former. There’s a difference between celebrating a victory, with those liberated and rubbing it in. I doubt we’ve come any where the line yet, except, I hope, for France.

Myles, I wasn’t being literal, either. Put my comment down to failed fascitiousness.
