: Lileks calls the two finalists for the rebuilt World Trade Center “crap.” He says much more than that and says it eloquently, but still, that sums it up.
After the buildings fell, I couldn’t wait for them to be rebuilt; I couldn’t wait for the wound to heal.
But now I think we are rushing into this and the finalists’ designs are the proof: Hasty, trying too hard, jarring, hurtful, aggressive, middle-fingers-to-the-sky, they are. They are not human. They are not beautiful. They do not speak to the future. We will regret them.
