We’re a wowy-kazowy power, damnit!
: Joi Ito finds a humiliating quote from Tom DeLay to John Gibson on FoxNews:
John, we’re no longer a superpower. We’re a super-duperpower.
The media pundit's pundit. Written by NYC insider Jeff Jarvis, BuzzMachine covers news, media, journalism, and politics.
There’s a certain truth to the phrase assigned us by, apparently, the French — hyperpower. But who can’t giddily chuckle at the phrase ‘super-duper’? It does have the effect of deflecting negative imagery.
Anyway, DeLay was only echoing fmr. US ambassador to the UK Ray Seitz, channeled through Chris Patten:

Patten, of course, is no fan of US dominance and has actually repeated this quote several times in various speeches and op-eds over the last year. (Apparently it was a personal remark.)
