The problem with life

The problem with life

: Dontja just hate it when life gets in the way of blogging? I’ve been too busy to blog much the last few days and because of the speed of this medium, it means that I miss stories: If you don’t get on the bus right away, it just keeps driving. So I missed the CampusJ’s correction of the NY Times and I missed Captain’s Quarters rattling Canadian authorities (here’s The Times’ story).

: LATER: I also hadn’t following the DeLay messes, but Slate kindly does a stink wrap-up.

I was wondering when you’d get to mentioning Captain Ed making the Canadian Government squeeeeeeel. One American blog breaking a government’s publication “ban” with that state threatening to bring charges against anyone from that country who links to it.

When future shock happens every day
“The internet is speeding up substantially right now. Ideas and information are starting to propagate very quickly, and we are trying to build the tools to sort through these growing heaps, and now arguing over the politicization of these tools. People fight keyword battles, trying to reposition political memes and spike google into making a definition seem authoritative. If it comes up on the google first page, its authoritative. Reality has been defined. Its going to go from text documents and text messages into high content media, its going to get all messed up with your cell phone and your bedside video camera (eeewwww). I can imagine people walking around with necklaces that stream video in and out. Its going to go liquid and you won’t be able to separate the media from your own perceptions. You already can’t.
Will we be reduced to gaping at our monitors all day long trying to comprehend changes in events and technology ? When we meet our friends in the evening, will we just stare vaguely at each other, ‘Did you understand today at all ?’ ‘Naw, too many paradigm shifts’.
No, people get tired of that, and they are already tired of it. The few people that keep up with it are all bugged out and nobody believes them. Already large amounts of people just ignore the things they can’t understand.”
