Fake Times
: Below, I bragged about not being a fake reporter. Now Roger L. Simon confesses he was one.
The media pundit's pundit. Written by NYC insider Jeff Jarvis, BuzzMachine covers news, media, journalism, and politics.
If the concern is really about fake reporters, then can’t we extend the topic to fake hype, fake news, fake evidence, fake expertise, and fake objectivity?
I think the Mainstream Media has these areas covered.
Since it’s not illegal to report false news, shouldn’t we consider all journalists to be “fake”, and untrustworthy, since they no obligation to tell the truth?
Roger actually confessed only to having been offered a position as a fake reporter. He fortunately turned it down. At least that’s what he apparently wants us to believe. On the other hand, note that he does not deny having ever worked as a prostitute.
Fake reporter aside, what about reporting fake news?
Reading this: http://www.randi.org/jr/021805a.html, Randi obsolves the John Quinones of any guilt for this Primetime special that involved zero reporting, research or much else. Just because those on air “reporters” are no more then glorified teleprompter readers, does it still mean they should be held responsible for stories they read for? This man got a script, he read off the script yet someone when the story is false, misleading or simply has no support or facts he is not accountable? Isn’t stories such as this a reason why the public has lost a great deal of faith in the media and reason why “reporters” such as John Quinones should be driven out of the business. If can’t stand by your work you shouldn’t be able to do the job.
YetAnotherRick, regarding having worked as a prostitute, as a great man once said, “I wouldn’t join a club that would have me as a member.”
