A naive (young?) commenter on the entry says that he thinks Glenn is going to filter all the information. Yeah, between classes maybe.
No one can filter all the information. You have to figure out your own best nodes to do that. And then, you’re only dealing with an abstract construct of the ‘optimum.’ But it’s only the optimum for you. Not for the guy next door.
I don’t know about you, but I get restless when the TV news covers almost nothing but the tsunami. I hate it when they disconnect from whatever else is going on in the world. That doesn’t make me a bad person. Or maybe I have tsunami fatigue. I don’t know. Or maybe it’s just my restless curiosity.
One of the reasons Big Media don’t get blogs is because they don’t get the economics of blogs.
Metaphorically, Mass media is the art of getting a million people to give you a dollar. Blogging is the art of getting one person to give you a million.
And, according to a professor at HBS (his name escapes me, mea culpa), the LATTER is statistically much easier.
What’s more rewarding, Jeff? To know your words were read by a million “consumers” last week or to know that Doc Searls linked to you that same morning?
Doubtless Clay Shirky could explain what I’m talking about better than I ever could… Heh.
