Mars National Convention v. Venus National Convention

Mars National Convention v. Venus National Convention

: Also on Bill Maher’s show, he was depressed that the Republicans run a better convention than the Democrats, a better show.

Maher thinks the Republicans are all about emotions and the Democrats are all intellectual. I don’t think I buy that.

On a truly awful local NPR show today, some lady complained about the “hyper-masculinization” of politics by the Republicans. That’s crap but still, it actually makes better (useless) sense: Republicans are male and aggressive (“Bring it on!”); Democrats are female and sensitive (yes, the “sensitive” war on terror). If you’re going to deal in gross oversimplifications, at least make them make sense.

Bill Maher always has to make those he disagrees with stupid. No surprise there.

maher was wrong about who had the better “show”
the repubs had zell, the dems had sharpton
the repubs had guiliani, the dems had bill clinton
pretty much even. the two presidential noms and the vice prez noms were also even.
so then we get to the tie-breaker where
the repubs had arnold, the dems had obama
with one guy calling people girlie men, and the other guy epitomizing what everyone wants their politicians to be like, i’d have to say advantage dems.
especially when you factor in the Black Eyed Peas + John Cougar Mellencamp vs Brooks N Dunn.
although the republicans had a cooler stage with that rising podium dealie-bob.

I have a gross oversimlification for you that makes sense to me. The Republicans are the party of alpha-males. The Democratics are the party of metro-sexuals.
After Beslan, which party do you want to leading the war?

    Jeff,
    Republicans are
1)rich, whites who benefit from controlling
2)the scared shitless hoping a (father knows best) controlled society will make them feel safe
3)people who want to “bring … on” Armageddon and The Rapture (sometimes they don’t vote because they don’t expect to be here long)
Everybody else really can’t vote for Bush.

Tony: Changed two, maybe three words, tops, and Obama could have made that speech at MSG last week.

Obama’s speech was great! But it was a disaster for the Democratic convention, because most people who were only sort of paying attention heard at least one thing: Obama one-American, Edwards two-Americas. Obama’s great speech only underscored the confusion and lack of message of the Kerry campaign.
And John (long since Cougar) Mellencamp trumps Brooks and Dunn? When’s the last time the artist formerly known as Cougar had a hit, 1983? Or are we just looking down our noses at the country/western/Nascar yokels, again?

the Republicans are the Daddy party, and the Democrats are the Mommy party
the good news this Labor Day 2004 is simply this: Bush Wins! George W. Bush WILL be President until Jan. 20, 2009 – get used to it

Jeff, certainly the Dems are “intellectual” (not a stupid dumb ass … a brain can come in handy…).
They are ALSO more emotional (much better music). Intellectual discourse on emotions, and rationalizations for hating the rich other guys.
The Reps are for action. Simple moral clarity; action based on those morals. Despite many folk disagreeing with some of the morals, like FMA.

Seems to me like the RNC was just 4 nights
    of stupid John Kerry jokes;
How many John Kerrys does it take to screw
    in a lightbulb?
    Depends on UN involvement.
    John Kerry; “Knock Knock”
    You; (who’s there)
    John Kerry; “John Kerry!”
    You; (John Kerry WHO?)
    John Kerry; “Ding Dong…”
John Kerry’s walking down the street, and
he notices a lady getting raped in an alleyway.
Angered, John Kerry runs over to the scene
and pulls the man off of her.
    “Hey lady, stop commiting atrocities!”
And then the purple band aids, waving flip flops,
and gay jokes (you telling me that “girlie men”
isn’t a gay joke?). Vote however you want, but
don’t ever tell me that my liberal causes are
immature after putting on a show like that.
While you guys were protesting a guy you hardly
even know, we were protesting aids, war, poverty,
and a president whose policies we are well
    aware of.

I get it Ruester — the DNC was tea and crumpets, chamber music playing softly in the background, civilized discussion of Constitutional nuances over sherry. While the RNC was beer and pizza, drunken Hell’s Angels doing wheelies in the parking lot while shooting guns off in the air and screaming girls ran down the halls with their hands clutching their torn blouses. Or — the DNC was like a church or a library, where everyone spoke (if at all) in hushed, reverential tones, and the RNC was a Motorcross Speedway theme park full of tired, sweaty families with cranky babies, sullen teenagers, and bickering couples. Or — the DNC was like London during the Queen’s Jubilee, and the RNC was like downtown Duluth on Grad Night.
Or maybe you’re just a snooty priss.

  12. Ruester Avatar

Ehem… yes, I was one of the “snooty” protestors
outside of your convention. If I had to “priss”
it down to your level, Andrea, I would
    characterize it this way;
our protestors are smarter than yours.

Let’s see… in your universe, people who go marching down the streets of New York, carrying heavy signs, screeching ridiculous slogans, for hours and hours in the daylight, in August, all because they don’t like the current president — are “smart.” Whereas I, who stay indoors in summer enjoying air-conditioning, iced tea, and the fact that I don’t need to join parades of aging hippies, jobless alternakids, and desperate-to-be-hip liberal intellectuals for personal validation means I am “not as smart.” Cool then, being less smart rules.
Oh, and you’re also a smug jerk as well as being a snooty priss. Tell me, do you have regular bowel movements, or do you plan on holding your sphincter closed like that until you’re fifty?

He won’t have to, Andrea, after that new one you tore him. ROFLMAO.
