Nicest thing said about me in I don’t know how long…
: Tom Watson calls me “reliably centrist.” Yes, I thought so.

“Reliably centrist”?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
More like reliably liberal.
More proof of the liberal journalistic bias. Liberal sentiment is classified as “centrist”
You people suffer from Pauline Kael syndrome…
Typical shark – all bite, small brain.
Jeff is exceedingly centrist – almost an extremist centrist. Of course, the center in this country is liberal, lower case L, and will always grow more liberal as the decades roll by….

Sorry Jeff, I see no reason to reset it from “realism” to “bull manure” :)

An assertion that is not borne out the by the last few election results…
Yes and no – but it doesn’t matter. Policy and our society creeps leftward, no matter who’s in office. I’m not talking year to year, but decade to decade. George Bush is more liberal than John F. Kennedy. Government is bigger and more in control, social spending has not declined, and society is more pluralistic and more tolerant. Forget the rhetoric Sharkie – look at the long-term curve…
I’ve never considered the “centrist” position to be something to be particularly proud of.
While the quote is a bit extreme to suit the discussion, it nonetheless conveys the problem with assuming that the middle of the road is somehow superior to staking your claim on one side or the other:
“In that transfusion of blood which drains the good to feed the evil, the compromiser is the transmitting rubber tube.” Ayn Rand – Atlas Shrugged
Our history is heavily populated with “centrists” who served as little more than enablers.
