: As I passed through Chicago yesterday, a truly disgusting story I hadn’t seen much elsewhere was all over the papers: The bus driver for the Dave Matthews Band dumped sewage from the bus into the river, hitting a tourist boat and a boatload of tourists to boot.
Anarchists: Don’t you get an ideas in New York. Delegates: Stay on land.
I guess being “unplugged” wasn’t such a good idea in this case.
This outrage is undoubtedly the result of mixed signals received by the driver in question from those higher up in the chain of command.
I call upon Dave Matthews to resign his position as an organ grinder’s monkey for the anti Bush coalition.
Outside of the 42nd St. overpass at Grand Central and the bridge ramps onto the Queensboro, Brooklyn, Williamsburgh and Manhattan bridges, there aren’t any places in Manhattan to do a sludge dump and have it end up any place but in the middle of the street. That may not matter to the protestors, but since odds are they’ll be the ones standing in the middle of the street, the tactic would be a bit self-defeating.
Jeff, get with the now. This was all over the blogosphere two weeks ago.
FWIW, the Chicago river’s flow was reversed as a desperate attempt to solve Chicago’s sewage problem.

I guess I’m a little slow, too, because today is the first I’ve heard of it. And to think I used to have sort of a crush on Dave Matthews…
According to the news, this bridge and others like it (which have coarse grate-surfaces through which “stuff” passes easily) are favorites for bus drivers, who have been doing this for years.
Rather than drive to an RV/Bus septic purging station, they drive over these well-known bridges and pull the plug on the way over.
This time they got caught.
By the way, Dave Matthews is a big DIMocRAT an a so-called environmentalist and is campaigning against GWB.

Their fatal mistake was identified in this line of the story:
The sewage fell on Chicago’s First Lady, an architectural tour boat, and filth splashed into the eyes and mouths of passengers.
Dumping shit on the mayor’s wife is especially stupid. Now, if the boat was full of Republican tourists, nothing probably would’ve been said. But the mayor’s wife isn’t going to be satisfied until someone hangs.
