.blogs? .not!

: I agree with Rex Hammock, who respectfully disagrees with Steve Rubel about creating a .blogs domain. Blogs aren’t just blogs. They are anything their creators want them to be. They are content. They are interaction. They are media properties. They are advertising. They are tools. Let’s not ghettoize ourselves. Good discussion, but I side with Rex here.

Hasn’t Rubel lost any credibility already with his publicity-pulling but essentially mindless blog diet? Seems he consistently falls in the “just doesn’t get it” camp.

Sorry to be a nay-sayer here, but what difference does it make? Den Beste has been living in “.nu” forever, and it has had no impact at all on his traffic. How many people still type URLs these days?
And if “.blog” became insanely popular, browsers like Firefox would merely include it in their “search .com, .net, and .org” feature, such that “buzzmachine.blog” would be found just as easily as “buzzmachine.com”.
IMHO, it wouldn’t matter at all.
