Reverse publishing

Reverse publishing

: The San Diego Reader is republishing blogger Brian Dear’s Brainstorms blog in the paper to show its readers what a blog is really like.

It’s a good idea. But it doesn’t need to be a one-time thing.

The wise print publisher would take, say, Gizmodo and syndicate it in print. [via Blogistan]

Gizmodo? Corporate shill? “Gift guide”? Rather than a real citizen-publishing blog?
You are a long way from what you preach, Jeff.
I hear you used to be a newspaperman once.

    Berg:
    Shill?
No, what’s wrong with big, old print publishers listening to — and putting the spotlight on — the people once known as the audience in new ways? Quoting a weblog every day is a way to promote it and have it heard by a larger audience; what’s not to love about that?

    It’s the San Diego Reader.

And it’s Brian Dear, not Brian Storms :-)
Thanks, Jeff Buzzmachine, for the mention in your blog :-)

Gizmodo is not “the people once known as the audience,” it’s a business.
“Quoting a weblog every day is a way to promote it and have it heard by a larger audience; what’s not to love about that?”
Gizmodo is not a weblog, its product promotion. Ads for gadgets. For all we know, Gizmodo pushes everything handed to them for free.
Gizmodo is advertising, not blogging, despite the same container.

Agreement on Gizmodo — it reminds me of the Fetish section of WIRED magazine, where there’s no diff btw ads and editorial: it’s all advertorial.
