Michael and Me

Michael and Me

: A filmmaker does a Michael Moore on Michael Moore, following him around trying futilely to get an interview — and this guy had no problem getting distribution.

Twin Cities filmmaker Mike Wilson’s upcoming “Michael Moore Hates America” details his unsuccessful attempts to interview Moore, the director who won an Oscar two years ago for “Bowling for Columbine.” …

At least three months before its release, the film has catapulted Wilson into national prominence. When an item about “Michael Moore Hates America” appeared on a showbiz Web site earlier this week, Wilson says, he was contacted by nine distributors who want to help book the documentary into theaters.

: Moore’s new trailer is up here.

I presume this forum will quickly fill up with criticisms of yet another filmaker who starts with a conclusion and then makes a propagandist movie to prove his bias.

Really, franky, where does Mike Wilson do that? And people didn’t criticize Columbine until it was out. Did you at least watch the trailer?

Nine distributors calling him to release the film? The true colors of Hollywood are thus revealed.

Yeah, green. As in “the color of money.” Some people in the industry must be reading blogs.

Wilson used to have a trailer up here http://www.michaelmoorehatesamerica.com/news.html but I see it’s gone now. The Guardian did a story a few days back Michael and Me http://observer.guardian.co.uk/review/story/0,6903,1222496,00.html it wasn’t very favorable at all.

    Kim,
I can’t believe it got bad reviews, because you know it just sounds soooo interesting.

My rule of thumb is if the Groaning Wad hates it it has to have some merit.

Oops — I did what Franky did, and wrote before reading! They were reviewing, not I hate Michael Moore, but Moore’s new film, Fahrenheit whatever. Interesting. (I note, though, that the Observer occasionally veers from the Guardian’s carefully delineated pro-anything-anti-Bush rules.)

And the review of Fahrenheit was fairly fawning (Sergei Eisenstein???) so my opinion stands.

The title of the Guardian piece and Jeff’s blog post title caught my eye, reason #1 and #2 was that they Guardian piece was not only critical of the film but the man behind the film. I’ve never really liked Moore and after seeing the trailer (no, my eyes didn’t bleed) I can’t say I see the brilliance Cannes gives it. As to the rest, manipulative, out of context, and opinionated, I don’t know you’ll have to tell me if you spent the money to see it.
