Next: the hyperlocal show 15 Minutes

: Don Hewitt — who has produced 60 Minutes for, what, a century? — is working on creating local franchises called 30 Minutes.

Am I wrong or didn’t Hewitt object to the creation of 60 Minutes II because it would dilute and distract the brand?

What is this going to be like in the hands of the local hairstylees? [via Lost Remote]

If done right, it could enhance both 60 Minutes and local news.
There are people who work in local news who want to do better work. And at least here in San Francisco, there are plenty of talented people who could do work as good as the stories on 60 Minutes.

60 Minutes is a tired brand, anyway.
One thing the BBC does right is good documentary… it’s one of the things I miss when I live in the States.

This might be a polite way of CBS sending him out to pasture, at least in their minds.
