Minor nitpick: they’re actually starting a new left-wing party. “Liberal” in Germany means roughly the same thing as “economic conservative” in the United States–not what a union would be likely to support.

Although Germany could use a new liberal party in the economic conservative sense too. The one we have now is pretty lame.
