As an deeply spiritual atheist, based upon my darwinian understanding of the universe and love of animal kind, it always breaks my heart a bit for a fellow like yourself who has so much of value to say about everything under the sun to appear to trash those of my persuasion.

Sissy, I think Jeff was merely posting an observation what is going on in Europe. I don’t know how you can take personal offense.
It’s silly semantics. Typical of college students today who take offense at everything and society as a whole these days. I find it interesting it’s not just Americans who are so overly sensitive to everyone and everything they disagree with.
Interesting, “reflection” how different is that from a prayer? Why not call it a time to meditate?
I think the loss of God, or thinking you don’t need it comes I think from the wealth of our society. What do you need to pray for? Or like my boss used to say, “How can you believe in God, when there is so much evil in the world,” missing the point. The point is, there is evil in the world because so many people choose disregard God (or a higher power than themselves if you like) and CHOOSE to be evil, selfish, inhumane, etc. If more people took the tenets of Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, etc., to heart and believed that had someone to answer to other than themselves, the world would be a better place.

If there weren’t so much evil in the world, we’d never know how much good there is. Everything has a balance.

Christianity and Judaism maybe in serious decline…Islam is very much on the rise.

    Jeff-
You have it backwards. Europe is losing God. By making religion as boring and meaningless as a meeting by the sub-sub-sub-sub-committee on nozzle design for third tier waste water treatment systems.
Given the history of Europeans to go after one another with hammer, axe, and saw over relatively minor differences in theology, this may not be a bad thing (TM).
