This is a perfect example of why blogs will never amount to anything more than spinners of the truth and gossip mongers. The clerics did not issue a fatwa against terrorism and violence, they issued a fatwa against violence directed at the people of Iraq. They said nothing about the terrorism and violence directed at coalition forces. That is a substantially different than the way you are spinning it.
Get the story right, blogger, or be consigned to the rubbish heap of the sensationalist tabloids.

No, Robert they issued a fatwa against killing muslims killing muslims–it’s ok to kill non muslims.

They did NOT say it’s ok to kill non-Muslims.
They also failed to say that it’s NOT ok to kill non-Muslims, but that’s neither here nor there.

    >muslims killing muslims
That’s what I said, but the way Jeff reports it would have you believe they issued a fatwa against terrorism. Not so. They only issued a fatwa against muslims killing muslims.
Whether he did this intentionally or just by laziness, it is a perfect example of why the blogosphere will not amount to anything, as Jeff claims. I have yet to read a single political blog that is anything more than a spinner of news or a gossip-monger. The recent “AWOL Bush” and “Kerry/intern rumour” stories only serve to drive the point home that the blogoshpere is just another useless source of disinformation on the web.

    Then quit reading them.

djohn66: amen to that! robert: stop torturing yourself. stop torturing the rest of us, for that matter.

    >stop torturing the rest of us, for that matter.
    Alternately, you could stop making grandiose claims about the blog world while simultaneously disproving the claims you make. Just today, for example, I’ve caught you spinning out untruths on these three separate posts;
1-Canada being in an uproar about the antics of Conan O’Brian.
2-Spinning the meaning of what Gore said.
3-Declaring that the Iraqi clerics issued a fatwa against terrorism.

Hey, gentlemen, it’s not as if Jarvis didn’t link to his source. Give the blog-banging a rest.
“Therefore, any attacks or aggressions against Iraqis, their scientists and intellectuals, their mosques and holy places are legal sins which no true Muslim should commit.”
It’s stuff everyone’s being saying–the top Imam of Makkah too–so I don’t see how it’s not a fatwa against terrorism, at least that targetted towards Iraqis.
Anyway, it’s sad when it takes a fatwa to convince some muslims that blowing people up isn’t exactly part of their duties.

Jeff, just out of curiosity, why don’t you ban this Robert McClelland person? So far I have not read one useful or interesting comment from him, just rude, often obscene personal attacks. And he is simply wrong most of the time about what he claims you are saying — so wrong that I sometimes wonder if he is not genuinely mentally challenged, or at least unstable. He never contributes anything to any discussion but angry ravings. Any minute now I expect him to start raving about how you are obviously in the pay of Bush’s reptilian overlords.

Jeff, don’t ban McClelland. He is a model of Liberal thought[?]and shows us what terrorism is, a sadomasochistic disorder stemming from a basic inability to think. No need to wonder, Andrea, as to whether he is mentally challenged. It simply can’t be denied.
McClelland’s own self-hate leads him to want to destroy others who do not have this self-hate, because they can think. It’s really that simple.
Poor Robert knows we are his enemy because we have what he can never have, security of self. This kind of defect or disorder has historically been the cause of much mayhem. It cannot be cured.

That’s an awfully revealing remark to make about yourself, Robert. Three times today, you’ve taken time out of your life to focus on some percieved spin by a blog proprietor you clearly dislike greatly.
Yet you’re here every day, dumping your venom.
Nice hobby, Robert. Very productive for you, I’m sure.

“1-Canada being in an uproar about the antics of Conan O’Brian.”
As a Canadian, I can speak with some authority on this. While there is little uproar apparent on the quiet streets of my little town, there certainly was in parliament and in the national media. It was national news for two full days, and were it not for the huge scandal around sponsorship program, would be leading the newscasts.
Don Cherry was national news for a week, for Chrissakes. Changes to NHL rules to try to improve the offensive game has been a steady discussion fodder in the media – the news media – for the past month. They are reporting moment by moment on the current meetings of the Board of Governors.
To their credit though, they’ve completely ignored the Bush/AWOL story. Even our left leaning national media can smell that big a rat.

    Andrea, Joe, Reid:
I don’t even read Robert or Anne and I suggest you don’t either. I tried for a long time. But they have nothing to say and they say it rudely. So the best thing to do is act as if they are not even there. If this were a party, they’d get the message that no one is talking to them and they’d leave. And if they harumph on the way out the door, well, we won’t even hear them.

Jeff, Good idea, but then you keep responding to Robert too. I think it’s irresistible to make some attempt to try to showcase him even more because he is so diseased, with the eternal hope that maybe his disease will remit if we counter-infect him with our thought, thus effecting the ever elusive brain transplant, and making big history.
Regarding Anne, I can only note that a female elk is a “cow”, and that she might therefore have BSE, thus also in need of treatment, which if we are the humanitarians we think we are, we cannot withold.
How dare you be so insensitive?

I think it is great that the fatwa was issued, a first step…. of course I would have liked a big old fat fatwa that said it was bad to kill anyone, even infidels, but I’ll take this one, single, voiced message which many clerics signed their names to…. as a first step. An important step to be sure to help put out the first signs of fire which could rage into a civil war, which no one wants. So, two thumbs up for the fatwas.

Jeez, Jeff. Now you get upset and delete my posts that say I don’t dislike you.
