: I agree with Corey Bergman that “brutal honesty” is the news-media trend of today. I say Howard Stern started it. You can expect that I’ll throw both FoxNews and weblogs into the mix. Corey notes t he trend with Dennis Miller on CNBC plus “think Daily Show combined with Anderson Cooper 360. Or MSNBC’s Countdown. Miller is aiming for 20 and 30-something (male) viewers who would rather trade the stiff formality of TV news for their X-Boxes. And I think he’s on the right track.”

I’m not in the demographic you mention at all, at all. I watched fifteen minutes of Dennis Miller last night: first and last time. His panel had three people talking over each other [and Miller] with gauzy and ill-informed opinions. I can get that at any faculty meeting. Miller’s comment that the set was a “lunch counter in a porn movie” revealed more than it intended.

Ellie is a riot. The deanie box is a hoot. Although watching last night I thought Ellie was going to get shocked. She was pulling the box apart. Miller needs to polish up he’s tripping over his lines right now.

We’ll get brutal honesty when politicians start admitting that voters want to get bribed with tax collected money. And that’s the problem with democracy.
Journalists want fame — from sensations. And controversy. And they all know that bad news is faster, more urgent, more sensational, than good news. But most news listeners/ readers know this.

Yeah, I blogged on this topic the other day. (http://www.strathlachlan.com/blog/2004/01/dennis_miller_t.html) Dennis Miller is an acquired taste. Like single malt scotch or techno music. The demo is the CNBC watching 20 to 30 something that has an education and a sense of humor. It

Miller wants Tom Snyder and is doing an homage to the 1950s era Today Show with the monkey. CNBC will have a younger audience with Miller, as in people in their 50s.

I like Miller, but I’m not impressed with his show so far. I saw his interview (discussion?) with Giuliani, and he looked and sounded very nervous, he couldn’t get his lines out smoothly and his intro jokes were totally lame. I kept waiting for someone to laugh, but hardly anyone did.
Giuliani on the other hand did impress me.

Single Malt is an acquired taste? I really only drink, when I drink hard liquor, gin.
    But one sip fo Middleton….ohhhh.

Miller’s got to bring some of his HBO show over.
Neither of those men could handle Naomi’s spin. Didn’t she advise Gore on dressing?

So Miller’s not perfect — but admit it — it’s way better than “My Big, Fat, American Idol Who Is A Mole On Survivor.”

Wait a minute. Fox as opinionated media, I’ll readily concede. But Fox as *honesty*? Are you kidding me?

I am giving Miller more time to gel, i have to admit I thought the thing with the chimp was lame (monkeys have tails) BUT against my will I was totally cracking up when Ellie was playing with the Dean-Scream box, soooo funny, despite my brain telling me it wasn’t funny, my funny bone tickled me out of my sensible phase.
I can not stand the round table, Miller enjoys it, so let him so it, that is why they invented the FF button on the tivo.
And I, too, thought Guiliani was great. Move over Cheney, the next VP is here.

So CNBC has Rukeyser (70+), and Dennis Miller (50+)…. now they need a How-to show(30+), a cooking show, a cartoon hour (3+) and their plan for world domination one demographic at a time is near completion!!!!

Compared to what? Fox is at least as honest as the other networks, not to mention the dead tree news.

Two minutes worth of juvenile political opining from Martin Short and Naomi Wolfe was enough to have me lunging for the remote. Miller will have to get a higher caliber of intellect on his panel for me to watch him.

Wolf and Horowitz going at it (which Miller jokingly implied was literal later) on Wednesday was good TV. The discovery that Dean’s scream was more primal than we thought – also good TV. Miller and Short filling in time with awkward conversation and the umpteenth update on what he’s doing after the Producers – not good TV.
And yes Miller made veiled reference to Wolf’s past on show 1 (rerunning tonight), saying the set was in earth tones for her.

The Dean scream is so 2 weeks ago! Wonkette sums up Miller in brutally honest fashion:
Expect a “mock-free zone” around President Bush and “reasoned discourse” from Dennis Miller’s new show tonight. But don’t look for too many celebreties. Says Miller, ” I don’t care what Gary Coleman thinks about Afghanistan…….” He’s sooooooo right. Because who cares what some washed-up comic actor with no political background thinks about poli-…er…huh.
No, we do not begrudge Miller his shot at fame. If Paris Hilton can become a household name by being filmed performing oral sex on an lackadaisical ex-jock, why shouldn’t Dennis?
Heh. Wonkette is a many-hehs-a-day read.

“I kept waiting for someone to laugh, but hardly anyone did.”
There’s no audience. Just the crew.
“The Dean scream is so 2 weeks ago!”
    As are his presidential aspirations.
