The other side of Mars

The other side of Mars
: Opportunity lands, sends back its first pictures and, in the words of the NASA site, “reveals a surreal, dark landscape unlike any seen before.”

I watched as much as I could Live and then TiVoed the rest…. it was very exciting! The only draw-back is the woman they have as commentator is severely hampered by her lack of intelligence and listening to her is incredibly irritating, however when they just broadcast the flight director’s loop with the images it is great TV!
Once they had landed, but before confirmation of a totally successful landing occured a few Pols made the rounds, former VP Al Gore and Callyfornia Guv-anator Ah-nold, shaking hands.
At one point, Al Gore, who by the way invented Mars, reached out his hand to point to something on a computer console and I thought “OH NO! He’s found proof of global warming!” But no, it was just a blinking cursor and once it was explained to him, he relaxed. (Ok, I embellished that last bit a little, sorry, I was up late.) But he did reach out to touch something on the screen and it scared me!
If anyone needs confirmation of what a great country this is, watch a little Nasa Tv and look at a room filled with intelligent, passionate, engineers and scientists… it is a great antidote to any grumpiness you have from watching too much political coverage!
The Nasa folks mentioned that have had 4 billion hits to their Mars pages THIS MONTH, more than the entire year of hits on all Nasa pages in 2003.
